Taraxacum officinale | Dandelion | Edible and Medicinal Uses

View photos of the edible and medicinal plant Dandelion (Taraxacum officinale), profiled in Medicinal Plants of the Western Mountain States and Herbal Medicine: Trends and Traditions.

A passage from Medicinal Plants of the Western Mountain States:

Augmenting to small intestinal fat digestion, Dandelion is stimulating to bile production by the liver and release by the gallbladder. It tends to be more cooling to the liver than other hepatic stimulants such as Barberry, so its use in liver inflammation, like hepatitis C, is safe and even called for. In fact, alone or combined with Milk thistle, Dandelion reduces liver sensitivity, upper body tightness, and itchy eyes and skin associated with liver inflammation.
