View photos of the edible plant Talinum paniculatum (Jewels of opar), profiled in Sonoran Desert Food Plants and Wild Edible Plants of Texas.
A passage from Sonoran Desert Food Plants:
Consider Jewels of Opar like Purslane or Flameflower, but on steroids. Its leaves are massive compared to these others, but they all taste about the same – succulent and tart.
A passage from Wild Edible Plants of Texas:
Although Jewels of opar has a limited native range within the state, it is worth mentioning due to its ease of propagation and gaining–popularity. Botanists consider the plant native if found west of the Mississippi River and non–native/possibly invasive when found east of the Mississippi. When encountered in the wild it is often found in semi–sun/dappled shade conditions.
