View photos of the edible plant, Peraphyllum ramosissimum (Squaw apple), profiled in the Wild Edible Series: Colorado, Nevada, Oregon, and Utah.

A passage from Wild Edible Plants of Colorado:

In Colorado, Squaw apple is limited to the foothills
of the Western Slope at elevations of 6000’–8000’, in association with scrub vegetation, Gambel oak, Pinyon/Juniper, and Ponderosa pine.

A passage from Wild Edible Plants of Utah:

The fruit ripens in middle to late summer. At this point the outer skin is yellowish–orange in color. The flesh is mildly sweet and certainly not unpleasant. Each fruit contains several hard seeds, which should be discarded.
