A passage from Medicinal Plants of the Western Mountain States:
The essential oil of Monarda, depending on species, contains typically between 50%–80% of thymol, a strongly antiseptic monoterpene also associated with the culinary herbs Thyme and Oregano. This high concentration of thymol makes the essential oil of Monarda of special note. Effective against a wide range of pathogens, topical application of the diluted essential oil (or essential oil–based preparation), is of value when applied to skin and nail fungi.

A passage from Medicinal Plants of the Western Mountain States:
The tincture or spirit ingested in small but frequent doses is a worthwhile therapy for the gastrointestinal effects of food poisoning, Candida overgrowths, and other microbial infections affecting the region. Having a trifecta of influences – anesthetizing, carminative, and antimicrobial – Monarda will be found specific and effective.
