View photos of the edible plant Hesperocallis undulata (Desert lily), profiled in Sonoran Desert Food Plants and Southern California Food Plants.
My recommendation when gathering Hesperocallis is to leave the flowering plants so they are allowed to seed. Instead, look for the non-flowering plants that develop narrow tail-like leaves (but are too young to develop a stalk and flower). With astute observation dozens of young plants can be found around an older one. The bulbs will be smaller but still satisfying. They are starchy and mild-tasting (and have no Garlic flavor/aroma).
