A passage from Medicinal Plants of the Western Mountain States:

A simple herbal remedy for the urinary tract, use the fresh juice or recently dried plant prepared as an infusion for the relief of painful/burning urination and related irritation of the urogenital area. The traditional indication is a fever along with urinary irritability. For reasons that are somewhat esoteric (the plant is not particularly antibacterial), if these two symptoms occur together, Cleavers is considered specific.
