Crataegus rivularis | Hawthorn | Edible and Medicinal Uses

View photos of the edible and medicinal plant Crataegus rivularis (Hawthorn), profiled in Medicinal Plants of the Western Mountain States and the Wild Edible Series: Colorado, Utah, and Wyoming.

A passage from Medicinal Plants of the Western Mountain States:

One of Hawthorn signature indications is weak and devitalized heart action due to cardiovascular disease. Vascular dynamics (blood movement) are affected positively: similar to Garlic, peripheral vascular resistance is decreased. With Hawthorn, blood literally passes through the vessels with less drag. This results in a more efficient cardiovascular environment.

A passage from Wild Edible Plants of Colorado:

Hawthorn is a small tree with toothed leaves, 5–petaled white flowers, and red fruit. Overlapping in range throughout Colorado, both species are found at Ponderosa–Aspen–Oak elevations, usually in association with drainages.
