A passage from Medicinal Plants of the Western Mountain States:
Shortly after the oleoresin’s ingestion the aromatic lipid–based terpenes are secreted/excreted into the bronchial environment. Their influence dislodges and thins thickened bronchial mucus. The surrounding airspace/lung tissue becomes inoculated with antimicrobial volatiles. Consequently, coughing becomes more productive and bacterial/viral growth is inhibited. Formulated as a cough syrup ingredient, it’s best to maintain the oleoresin tincture fraction to 10%–25% of the total volume.
