View photos of the edible and medicinal plant Rubus idaeus var. strigosus (Red raspberry), profiled in Medicinal Plants of the Western Mountain States, Wild Edible Plants of Arizona, and Wild Edible Plants of New Mexico.
A passage from Medicinal Plants of the Western Mountain States:
Of all the Rose family astringents, Red raspberry is the best known. A time–tested and kindly remedy, its heralded reputation is not without founding. 1–2 cups daily (no more), started at the beginning of the last trimester of pregnancy, has a tonifying effect, lessening the possibility of miscarriage.
A passage from Wild Edible Plants of Arizona:
Raspberry fruit is relatively high in vitamin C, containing approximately 30 mg. per 8 ounces. It also is a fair source of several B vitamins and vitamin E.
A passage from Wild Edible Plants of New Mexico:
Raspberry fruit found in the wild tends to be a little smaller than store–bought cultivars; however, at peak ripeness they are just as sweet, possibly even more so.
