View photos of the edible plant Piptochaetium fimbriatum (Pinyon ricegrass), profiled in Wild Edible Plants of Arizona.
A passage from Wild Edible Plants of Arizona:
There is little to no ethnobotanical information on the utilization of Pinyon ricegrass for food. However, the grass is fairly common throughout the Chiricahua Apache’s traditional territory (photos were taken in the Chiricahuas). It’s my opinion that this grain was locally utilized but has not been reported/recorded due to information/communication loss.
