A passage from Wild Edible Plants of Arkansas:
Common to most parts of Arkansas, habitats are wide and variable. From disturbed soils to open flats and hillsides, it is likely that some species is not far away.
A passage from Wild Edible Plants of Texas (Volume 1):
They taste sweetish–acidic and tomato–like. If
immature, they are better cooked. When ripe, eat raw or combine them with other wild edibles. Ground cherry
salsa is a local favorite (substitute Ground cherry for tomatoes).
